HOMECOMING / PORTALS OF REMEMBRANCE—INSTALLATION VIEWS— 2025
BWA CENTRE FOR UNIQUE CERAMICS CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY
WAŁBRZYCH-POLAND, JANUARY 2025
CURATED BY ILONA SAPKA
This is one aspect of the exhibition, which as a whole evolves around the body and embodied experience. This particular part is inspired by out-of-body experience, focusing on moments when perception separates from physical presence. It reflects states in which the body is simultaneously distant and intensely felt—often occurring during trauma, illness, or medical intervention.
Portals of Remembrance explores memory as a threshold — a passage between presence and absence, the visible and the internal. The project reflects on how memory is activated through symbolic forms rather than linear recall, functioning as a site of transition.
Composed of spatial paintings and sculptural structures, the works operate as portals that invite movement and contemplation. Painting extends beyond the surface, integrating with architectural space to create zones of pause and passage.
This project establishes a key conceptual framework within di Masternak’s practice, introducing the motif of the portal as a recurring structural and symbolic device that continues to inform later installation-based works.
