PORTALS OF REMEMBRANCE, 2024

The genesis of The Portals of Remembrance series lies in a profound, life-altering out-of-body experience that fundamentally shifted my perspective, collapsing the linear concepts of past, present, and future into a unified consciousness I call Homecoming. This three-part journey explores love in all its iterations—the yearning, struggle, self-love, and absence—a thread binding themes of oneness, identity, and healing. Rooted in my personal narrative of over 45 surgeries and a near-death experience, the work informs my commentary on navigating modern femininity and growing up in post-communist Poland. Executionally, the series utilizes silk as a primary medium to create expansive lightbox paintings that evoke the spiritual clarity of stained glass. These pieces are not conventional paintings; they are tapestries woven from the warp and weft of time—a silken cocoon spun from memory. The final installation combines these dramatic lightbox tapestries with ceramic sculptures and traditional paintings, offering a complete, immersive return to the self.
